From May 2022 to April 2023, I served as a Graphic Design Assistant in the Office of Public Information and Publications at The University of Tampa. Over the course of 11 months, I collaborated closely with in-house designers, writers, and university departments to create a wide variety of print and digital materials—ranging from infographics for the UT Journal to custom T-shirt designs and promotional brochures.
This role strengthened my ability to communicate visually within a large institution, where consistent branding, clear messaging, and cross-departmental collaboration are essential.

GOALS & DESIGN CHALLENGES
The primary challenge of this role was designing within the university's existing brand system—maintaining cohesion across all deliverables while still creating visually engaging and effective designs. My work had to appeal to a broad audience, from prospective students and families to faculty, staff, and alumni.
WORKFLOW
Many projects required working directly from supplied copy, requiring me to visually interpret the message and bring it to life through layout, typography, and illustration. I typically provided thumbnail sketches to e polished digitally after approval from the Art Director.
PUBLICATIONS
I was regularly tasked with creating infographic layouts for the UT Journal, a quarterly print magazine sent to thousands of alumni and donors. Each infographic was built from raw copy provided by the writing team, and I worked independently to develop compositions that were visually engaging and easy to navigate.

ADMISSIONS
To welcome admitted students, I helped design the Spring 2024 admissions box, including a branded tumbler and corresponding packaging materials. The goal was to create a cohesive, exciting first impression that reflected the university’s vibrant personality and academic pride.
DESIGN PRIORITIES
working with dielines, coordinating with physical product specs, integrating branding across formats
IMPACT
These materials were sent directly to incoming students, becoming part of their first tangible interaction with UT
LOGOS
I worked with student organizations and internal departments to develop custom logos that aligned with UT’s visual identity. This process involved pitching multiple concepts and revising designs based on stakeholder feedback—all while navigating brand guidelines and the individual goals of each group.
NOTABLE EXAMPLES
Logos for UT Unity (a diversity/inclusion group), UT Psychology Club, and more.
TAKEAWAY
Learned how to collaborate with non-designers and guide them through visual decision-making.
FLYERS
I designed marketing materials for events hosted across campus, such as Safety Awareness Week, diversity events, and club promotions. Many pieces had to balance a large amount of copy with compelling visuals and a sense of urgency.
DELIVERABLES
DESIGN FOCUS
Posters, flyers, and digital assets for email and social.
Hierarchy, typography, visual clarity under tight deadlines.
CUSTOM MERCHANDISE DESIGN
For special events like the Spartan Spirit Rally and the UT Sustainable Market, I created T-shirt designs that captured the energy of each event while working within a limited color palette and print constraints.
