ENCHANTERRA
"A whimsical, choice - based quest"
Game Mechanics • UX • Illustration • Product Development • Packaging Design

Enchanterra is an original fantasy card game created to immerse players in a whimsical world of magical creatures, enchanted artifacts, and epic quests.
Drawing inspiration from mythology, RPGs, and illustrated card decks, I designed and illustrated the entire game from the ground up—including the game mechanics, card artwork, packaging, and user experience.
This project reflects my passion for world-building and storytelling through visual design, merging illustrative craft with clear, player-focused interaction.

VISUAL DIRECTION
The visual style of Enchanterra leans heavily into lush, storybook-inspired fantasy. Each card was illustrated in a hand-drawn, textured style with soft color palettes and a balance of whimsy and elegance. Typography and card hierarchy were carefully considered to ensure legibility during gameplay, especially in fast-paced or strategic moments.
MY ROLE

-
Prototyping & playtesting coordination

BOARD DESIGN
I designed the game board around a spiral layout, drawing inspiration from sacred geometry to visually and thematically connect it with the packaging design. The spiral form symbolizes growth, magic, and continuity—core themes of Enchanterra.
CREATING SOMETHING UNIQUE
This spiral approach also allowed me to break away from conventional grid-based boards and create a structure that feels entirely original, enhancing the game's immersive, otherworldly atmosphere.
CARD DESIGN
One player assumes the role of Card Master, overseeing the deck and distributing cards to players as needed. This system adds an element of unpredictability while encouraging storytelling, roleplay, and collaborative gameplay dynamics.
CARD TYPES
Enchanterra features five distinct card types—Events, Interactions, Items, Attributes, and Outcomes—each represented by a unique color and custom illustration. At the beginning of each turn, players roll a four-sided die to determine how many spaces to move along the spiral board. The color of the space they land on dictates the type of card they draw.
CHARACTER DESIGN
Enchanterra features five playable characters: a wizard, fairy, goblin, witch, and elf—each brought to life through my original illustrations. I designed the cast with a focus on inclusivity, ensuring a diverse representation of race and gender. Among the five, two characters are male, two female, and one is non-binary/gender fluid.
GAME MECHANICS
Each character begins the game with a unique distribution of attribute points, affecting how they navigate challenges throughout the journey. For example, a decision that relies on stealth versus one that calls for strength will impact characters differently, encouraging players to strategize based on their character’s individual strengths.
DICE ROLLER FABRICATION
Inspired by the popularity of dice rollers among Dungeons & Dragons players, I designed a custom roller as a functional centerpiece for Enchanterra. Positioned at the heart of the board, the roller represents the Ancient Cypress—the mystical landmark each player is journeying toward—and is used for rolling the 20-sided die during gameplay.
DESIGN & FABRICATION
I began by 3D modeling the structure with portability in mind, designing it to split in half for compact storage inside the game box. After printing the prototype in white filament, I refined the form through sanding, assembly with hot glue, and detailed hand-painting using acrylics and varnish. The final result is both a sculptural focal point and a fully usable game component.

PACKAGING DESIGN
For Enchanterra, I wanted the packaging to feel like more than just a box—I envisioned it as a decorative, display-worthy object that reflects the magic of the game inside.
DETAILS
The front features an original hand-illustrated cover designed to evoke the look of a treasured storybook, while the back presents the game’s narrative and a clear breakdown of its components.
FINAL DELIVERABLES
The final, fully fabricated version of Enchanterra is the result of extensive playtesting with friends and design iterations. The game has proven to be a hit in casual hangouts, offering engaging, strategic gameplay that’s easy to learn yet challenging to master. The finished product includes all game components—cards, dice roller, board, and packaging—creating an immersive and enjoyable experience for players of all levels.
REFLECTIONS
Enchanterra challenged me to think not just like an artist or a designer, but like a game developer and storyteller. It deepened my understanding of how visual design can guide behavior, spark imagination, and create emotionally resonant experiences. This remains one of my most personally rewarding projects to date.
